This next page, we move into something ‘eavier, with the like of the metal magazine Kerrang! Yes! That’s Kerrang! with an exclamation mark. Kerrang! was a one off supplement given away with Sounds in 1981. It went on to be the premier rock magazine going from monthly issue to weekly in ’87. It’s morphed throughout the years and still exists. Here are some of their flexis along with other metal magazines.
If it works, why not replicate it? There were a hoard of other metal magazines that didn’t last quite as long as Kerrang! but were in the same area. From metal mags we slide into the more indy side of music mags from the Bucketful of Brains that started in ’79 to Chainsaw, an independent magazine right up to the glossy Mojo.

Much honed from Public Schools; Cambridge Footlights and Oxford Revue, ironically knocking the very system they were born into.The next gallery features flexis from satirical magazine, Private Eye and one from Time Out. Often taken to court for libel, P.E. must have been pushing the boat out with issuing these flexis! This niche of satire, once part of the fringe , permeates the BBC and alike and has since become mainstream entertainment.
